12 Steps to Spiritual Enlightenment

12 Stages of Awakening

White Eagle on Awakening

You stand on the cusp of a great awakening. This is the time where illusions are rent asunder and that which is true gives form to itself in a new emergence. This emergence doesn't whisper itself into reality but rather crashes into what has gone before, toppling that which holds old forms and limitations.

The new is expressive, unpredictable and undeniable. It shows up as transition and upheaval, but always with the strong sense of right and light. The masks are removed so the true beauty can show itself once again. The question to ask at all levels is "What is truth?" Even that truth isn't with a capital ’T.’ It will change the next second or day. So you can't guide this journey by knowing the end, for even that truth will surely change. You must look for truth in the moment without attachment to outcome. Outcome sets a direction for movement but doesn't give rise to the purpose of the journey.

Flow is the most important personal aspect to cultivate in these times. This especially means flow in your thinking patterns. These are only hard times if you are attached to that which has been pre-conceived. In times of major creation there is no pre-concept available or possible. Rather witness an emergence of spectacular proportions at all levels. Don't determine that which is possible or impossible by the merits that you ascribe to it, rather let the Universe surprise all that is.”

My Journey of Awakening

Since I was 12 years old I’ve been on a spiritual quest. It started by doubting some of the dogmatic teachings of the Catholic Church. The God I conceived of just wouldn't have some of those rules. How could there be a devil if God is love and love is everywhere? Sometimes at night I would slip into a magical space, now I recognize it as a doorway into another dimension. In high school, I started reading all the books I could find by Hermann Hesse, Carlos Castaneda, Emerson, Thoreau, Huxley. By college, I added Frankle, Neitzsche , Kierkegaard, Swedenborg…

Since 2017 is The Year of Awakening, through my own experience and my research over the decades I’ve come up with 12 Phases of Awakening. Perhaps you recognize most of them? Perhaps you followed them in a different order? Perhaps the phases you experience spiral back on themselves? Or happen at the same time?

However it is for you, I hope this gives you some confirmation that no matter where you are or how it all started YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!

12 Stages of Awakening

"Enlightenment is realized not achieved."

- Jonette Crowley

  1. The Urge/ the Call

You come to understand that there is more. Sometimes the Call is precipitated by a crises. You begin to ask the deeper questions of ‘Who Am I?’ It is an urge you are compelled to explore.

  1. Research

Doubting what you have been taught. Learning, reading, collecting information, hungry. You find yourself binging on new information and ideas. (This can unsettle those who are close to you. ;-)) You become disillusioned by the world and others who don’t question, who don’t hear the call. You pull back from family and friends, feeling isolated and not understood.

  1. New Belief Systems

Based on all your new ideas you attempt to create new belief systems, new models for understanding the world. You try to re-organize your life accordingly. You seek confirmation that you’re on the right track. You expand your circle to include others who believe as you do.

  1. Failure of the New Belief Systems

The new answers don’t fix everything. You still don’t feel peace and happiness. The dark night of the Soul. What now? You feel lost at sea.

  1. Purge

Falling apart of the old and the new paradigms. You empty your basket of beliefs. You move beyond belief systems. Clear yourself of all the thinking.

  1. Void

    Surrender into the unknown/ unknowable.

  1. Perceptual Shift

Beyond duality. Death of ego identity. Beyond self. Unattached to experience. Universal view. Cosmic connections.

  1. Deep Self-Realization

Reference is inward instead of outside yourself.

  1. Release

Breakthrough from cause/effect. Free from drama, karma, worry, pain. You experience a fundamental new structure of yourself and world.

  1. Quantum Still Point

Buddha moment. Silence of your Soul. This experience can be repeated at will.

  1. Integration / Acceptance / Understanding

You are In the world but not of it. Fully present. No longer searching. You experience uncaused well-being. joy, (or not…). Everything you experience is perfect. Chop wood, carry water.

  1. Awakened

You know yourself as here, there and everywhere. All is good in all of creation. Timeless, infinite, multi-dimensional. Realization beyond self. Understanding beyond labels. Consciousness ever expanding. Timelessness. Pure synchronicity. At peace.

Enlightenment is realized not achieved.
